Commitment to DEIRA

Welcome to the brand-new Digital Creative Associates (DCA) newsletter! We're proud to bring you this quarterly collection of updates about our work, profiles of diverse scientists–and tips to make your scientific communication excel!

All ten DCA TEAM members are grouped together in an escape room, smiling at the camera. Most hold small "I Escaped!" signs.

DCA GROWTH

If you’re a long-term client, you’ve probably noticed that DCA has grown over the last couple of years. This growth has allowed us to provide better products for our clients, and to further explore what we can contribute to the scientific community.  As leaders in scientific communication, we are uniquely positioned to help shape how the stories of science are told, and how science and scientists are represented.

Therefore, we have the responsibility to produce videos that showcase the wide variety of human experiences and that are accessible to everyone. While we have always strived to showcase people from a variety of identities and backgrounds in our work, we knew this was an area in which we could improve our processes.

DCA is proud to announce our improved commitment to DEIRA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Representation, and Accessibility) with the creation of a DEIRA task force.

We are currently fine-tuning our DEIRA process for all videos we produce, so stay tuned for more. Every newsletter will also include a tip to help you make the content we develop together more inclusive.

OUR DEIRA MISSION

DCA is deeply committed to promoting inclusion, diverse representation, fairness, and respect within our team, in the content we produce, and in our interactions with the global scientific community. This commitment includes celebrating and advocating for historically underrepresented and marginalized groups.

Our commitments also include:

  • Making content that is accessible to those who are vision-impaired, hearing-impaired, and/or neurodivergent;

  • Creating and executing programs for scientific outreach within underrepresented communities;

  • Featuring scientists in the Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) community;

  • Using inclusive English dialects in voiceover narrations;

  • Encouraging clients to make DEIRA initiatives a priority within their company and projects.
